What you need before you start

Just three things:

An Android device with a working internet connection.
The full playlist URL, copied exactly. Watch for a leading https:// and no stray spaces or line breaks — a single missing character stops the whole thing loading.
A link that works from the internet. KawaTV's servers fetch the playlist for you, so a link that only opens on your home Wi-Fi (192.168.… or localhost) will not load.

One quick check that saves a lot of frustration: know which kind of link you have. There are two, and they get pasted in different places.

A raw M3U URL is a single web address. It often looks like .../get.php?username=…&password=…&type=m3u_plus or ends in .m3u / .m3u8. You paste it as one string.
An Xtream Codes login is three separate parts: a server/host URL, a username, and a password. Mashed together into a single link box, nothing loads — each part needs its own field. How to open an IPTV playlist URL on Android

Here's the paste-a-link flow using KawaTV. The steps are almost identical in any modern M3U URL player for Android.

Install the player. Get Kawa Player from Google Play, or skip the install and open the web player in your browser.
Sign in. Tap Sign in Anonymously — no email or password needed. (Prefer your email? Enter it and tap Send OTP.)
Open the Playlists screen. Go to Settings → Playlists and tap the + button. With no playlists yet, Home → My Playlists → Manage Playlists gets you there too.
Fill in the form. Give the playlist a Playlist Name you'll recognise, like "Home list". For a raw M3U link, paste it into Playlist URL — long-press the field and tap Paste so you don't mistype anything. For an Xtream login, put the server address (for example http://example.com:8080) in Playlist URL and fill in Username and Password; pasting your provider's get.php M3U link into Playlist URL works too.
Save, then tap refresh. Save stores the playlist; tapping the refresh button on its row makes KawaTV fetch the list from the server and build your channels. This usually takes a few seconds; a large list can take a little longer. The row shows Synced when it's done.

Playlist URL won't load? Here's how to fix it

A link that won't open is almost always one of three things: a formatting slip, the wrong type of link, or an expired one. Work through these in order.

1. Test the link in a browser first

This is the single most useful diagnostic. Paste the raw URL into Chrome's address bar and hit go:

It downloads a text file that starts with #EXTM3U → the link is healthy. The problem is on the player side (see fix 2 and 3 below).
You get a 403, 404, a blank page, or an "account expired" message → the link or the account is the problem, not the app. No player can fix a URL the server is rejecting.

2. Rule out a wrong or malformed link

Most "it won't load" cases are simple copy-paste damage:

A missing http:// or https:// at the front (KawaTV will not save a URL without one).
Stray spaces, a line break, or characters lost when the URL was truncated in a chat message or email.
You actually have Xtream credentials but pasted them as an M3U URL. A host, username and password won't work crammed into a single link — enter the three parts separately. In KawaTV, the host goes in Playlist URL, and the username and password go in their own fields.
The link only works on your home network. KawaTV's servers fetch the playlist, so 192.168.…, localhost and other local addresses cannot be reached.
The link points to a single video file rather than a playlist, so only one item ever appears.

Re-copy the link from the original source and paste it fresh rather than editing it by hand.

3. Check whether the link has expired

Some M3U links are time-limited and expire after a day or two, so a link that worked yesterday can quietly stop working today — this is normal and not a bug in the player. If your provider issues Xtream credentials, those typically stay valid far longer, which is why many people prefer them. Grab a fresh link (or fresh credentials) from wherever you got the original, delete the old playlist, and add the new one.

Some sources also cap how many streams can play at once. If the same link works on one device but fails on another, you may simply have hit that connection limit — close it elsewhere and try again.

Still nothing?

Delete the playlist (the delete icon on its row), add it again, and tap refresh. If the link opens in a browser but KawaTV still shows Failed or fewer channels than you expect, check the playlist's entries: KawaTV lists an entry only when its tvg-id matches a channel it recognises, and skips entries without one. Finally, open the exact same URL in a browser on a second device or network. If it fails everywhere, the link is the culprit, not your phone or your app.

Can I open an M3U URL on Android without downloading a file?

Yes. When you paste a URL, the player fetches the list from the server for you — there's no file to save or manage (in KawaTV, tap refresh on the playlist to fetch it). If you were given an actual .m3u file instead of a link, KawaTV needs it as a link: upload it somewhere that gives a direct https:// address, such as a GitHub Gist's Raw link.

My link opens in the browser but not in the app — why?

If the browser downloads a file starting with #EXTM3U, the URL is fine, so the issue is in the app: usually the wrong link type (Xtream credentials pasted as an M3U URL), a stray space, a refresh that was never tapped, or a link that only works on your home network.
